“Blindness,” the blind scholar said, “isn’t just a physical handicap in the gospels. It’s equated with stupidity, with foolishness, with wilfully being unable to perceive the truth. I feel myself excluded from the Christian Community when I hear Jesus use blindness in this metaphorical way.”
