One of the most significant events in the Old Testament is where Abraham takes Isaac up a mountain, in obedience to God’s request that he sacrifice him. But what a test! One of the commandments is “Thou shalt not kill” – yet here is the giver of that commandment actually requesting Abraham to kill his son. It seems barbaric. What sort of God does this?
